U.S.S. Yorktown CV-5 in 1/350th Scale Styrene kit coming from Merit

IMG_5787-001The IPMS USA National Convention was this past weekend in Hampton, VA. At the show, Merit International announced their forthcoming 1/350th scale kit of U.S.S. Yorktown in injection molded styrene. This kit has been in the works for some time, and in recent months representatives from Merit have been working with members of this website to ensure that the final product is as accurate as possible. Several people were able to hold an early test shot of the hull and verify that it is far more accurate in shape than earlier attempts in this scale.

Work continues, and we here will do as much as we can to ensure that the kit is as accurate as possible and worthy of the name Yorktown. Expect to see announcements concerning release date and retail pricing in the coming months.

  1. I hope to worth as far so longer this expecting issue from MERIT, in fact is a good new..!! and pray to the Lord that the price could not more expensive than faky Trumpeter’s one.

Good done MERIT…I can not wait anymore..to get a one..!!

  2. I hope this kit comes out soon, my son is huge fan of the USS. Yorktown CV-5. It sounds like the kit will be very nice and their are already after market detail kits for it. I’m hoping that Merit will follow with the most famous ship in US Navy history, CV-6 USS Enterprise. There has been only one 1/350th model that I know of and that was made by Yankee Models and it was in resin. I have been waiting for this model for a long time.

  3. Kudos to Merit for developing this model! I’m sure I speak for a lot of USS Yorktown CV-5 fans in hoping this model will be released soon. She was indeed a gallant ship and she deserves to be replicated as accurately as possible. Please keep us up to date with her progress and best of luck with all your efforts!

  4. The kits are on the way! Word is that they should start showing up at distributors and hobby shops within the next week or two, maybe even sooner.

We’ve come into possession of a pre-production kit that we’ll be posting photos of this week. Stay tuned.
