After many months of being off-line and just plain broken, we’ve resurrected this website. Long story short: hackers got in, screwed up everything, and it’s taken more time, thought, and money, than anticipated to get the site up and running again.
The plan is to recreate the website as it was. We will be able to restore all of the content such as photos, reviews, history articles, etc. Unfortunately, we will not be able to restore the comments from the public on those articles. Another long story short: the restoration of the database containing the community comments and interaction would have required more money than this single-person financed website was able to budget. That’s where we stand. We’ll be adding back articles as time allows, with a goal of one or two a week. We’ll also be adding new content as it becomes available. Yorktown has miraculously become better represented in the model making world over the past few years, and we’ll be talking about the new kits, reference materials, and upgrade sets.

I am working wth Seebees from New Jersey to help restore memorial to the Battle of Midway where the Yoktown was eventually sunk. We have 12 small text panels that describe important events that transpired from 02 Jine to 07 June 1942. To that end, we are looking for some old photos that could be used to enhance the display. If someone would be kind enough to contact me, I could further detail ou needs.

Good afternoon. All of the photos we have and have access to are pretty much from the Naval History and Heritage command. You can find their catalog of photos here:

To the best of my knowledge, they have everything that we’d have. One of our supporters does an annual trip to the national archives and seeks out CV-5 photos, and everything he finds he sends to that website for them to catalog and upload.

Currently building the 1/200 model of Yorktown CV5 so looking for all information I can get. I will have to scratch-build a lot because the model-kit itself is inaccurate to say the least.
Do you happen to know anything about an extra radar-antenna that was attached to the left side of the funnel ? You can see this very faintly in the photograph of Yorktown in dry-dock. Also in some Yorktown sinking photographs. It appears they attached two small platforms to the funnel.
Arno, I’m not familiar with that specific antenna. I’m about to start a 1/700 build of her in a few months, but haven’t started the hardcore research of those details yet. The best source of such things is on the Modelwarships.com message boards, specifically the “Calling All Ships Fans” section, where there’s a TON of talk about details.
